We were recommended this restaurant by friends who had visited for an anniversary meal. We booked during December and as you can imagine they were busy, so we opted to delay our visit until January, booking was an easy and painless process.
We decided to go for the 8-course surprise menu without the wine option, which adds a glass of selected wine per course, the surprise is that you don’t know what you are going to eat until you arrive (we believe you can call during the day of your meal if you really want to know).
On arrival, we were greeted in the car park and led through to what I would describe as a sitting room that is furnished with comfortable chairs, sofas and a roaring fire, which was welcome on a cold winters night. We ordered some drinks to start us off and were shown a teaser menu giving you a hint of the different courses to come. We were taken through to the restaurant and the first thing we noticed was that unlike other fine dining restaurants we have had the pleasure to visit in the past was a large amount of room around the tables.
The surprises then started, now we are not going to list off what we had for two reasons, one, we can’t remember exactly what was in each dish and we would not want to miss something out, two, what we had may not be on the menu when you visit. Each and every course was exceptional and bursting with flavour and the dish was explained when it was presented, even the bread was special.
Another thing to mention was the interaction between the staff, they all seemed to be relaxed, happy and worked well as a team. The timing of the meal was very good, you were not rushed through any of the courses and we did not feel like we waited too long either.
There are also some rooms at the venue which I can see us trying in the future.
All in all, it was a very special experience and one that we will be sure to try again.
